    KATHMANDU, NEPAL / RankWire.AI / – The death toll from flooding across Nepal and Tibet has reached at least 919, with 4,793 people still missing. Nepal has recorded 903 deaths and 4,247 missing people following the August 26 disaster. Tibetan authorities have confirmed 16 deaths and 546 people missing in Gyirong County.     Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority said rescuers have brought 10,451 people to safety. The total includes 252 foreign nationals. Authorities list 592 foreigners among those still missing in Nepal. They also count 933 missing workers linked to hydropower projects along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli corridors. Officials have recorded 267 injuries, while 156 people have left medical care after treatment. More than 20,000 security personnel are supporting rescue, recovery and relief operations.

    The flooding hit the Bhote Koshi River area in Rasuwa District early on August 26. Fast-moving water damaged homes, roads, bridges, power facilities and other infrastructure. Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha suffered major effects as floodwaters moved through connected river systems. The disaster also struck Gyirong County in Tibet near the Nepal border.     Hydropower sites remain central to search operations

    Search crews are focusing heavily on hydropower facilities where large numbers of workers remain unaccounted for. Nepal Army personnel are working with tunnel rescue specialists from India, China and South Korea. Officials say at least 90 people remain trapped in several hydropower tunnels. Mud, rocks and debris have blocked access at multiple sites. Rescue teams have used drilling equipment, ventilation systems and heavy machinery during the operation. Authorities continue checking employment records against reports from project operators and workers’ families.

    Recovery teams are also working to identify bodies carried downstream during the flooding. Twenty-one hospitals are holding unidentified remains while officials compare records and information from relatives. In Chitwan, authorities collected DNA samples and identifying information before temporarily burying some bodies. Officials continue reconciling field reports to remove duplicate records and confirm identities. Search teams are checking isolated settlements where damaged bridges and roads have slowed access. Authorities have warned that verified totals may change as identification work continues.

    Foreign nationals remain among thousands missing

    Foreign citizens account for a significant share of the missing-person lists in Nepal and Tibet. Nepal reports 592 foreign nationals missing after the floods. Tibetan authorities list 261 foreign citizens among the 546 people still missing in Gyirong County. Those listed include citizens of Nepal, India, Latvia, the United States and Britain. Officials are exchanging identity information as they check travel records and border movements. Consular representatives are also assisting families seeking confirmation about relatives who were in the affected region.

    Nepal’s government continues to prioritize search, rescue, relief and recovery work across the disaster zone. Crews are delivering food, medical supplies and other emergency assistance to affected communities. Authorities are also monitoring rivers while teams assess damage to transport links, homes and power infrastructure. Thousands of people remain displaced or cut off from normal services. Officials continue urging reliance on verified casualty figures as agencies reconcile reports. The latest confirmed totals show 919 deaths and 4,793 missing people across Nepal and Tibet.
